Italy: Salvini calls for early elections as soon as possible

Matteo Salvini, the strongman of the Italian government and leader of the far-right party, the League, has called for the most anticipated elections on Thursday, August 8th. Â "Â quickly" possible, unleashing the break-up of the ruling coalition.

"Let's go straight to Parliament to take note that there is no longer a majority (â € |) and quickly give the word back to the elders", he demanded in a statement, broadcast after a series of meetings between political leaders.

Salvini said the parliament could be convened next week to begin the necessary procedure.
